Looking for easy ways to clean up your email marketing? Get into the spring clean spirit with these easy tips for your account…
A clean up of your email marketing account is a great way to improve your campaigns’ performance and productivity. And there’s no better time to take a look.
March means spring is here, right? Ah, yes. The time for birds singing, flowers blooming and – you guessed it – a good old-fashioned, classic spring clean. Your kitchen cupboards aren’t the only thing that need a spring clean. So yes, that includes giving your your email marketing a good clean too!
For us, March is the perfect time to get into the spirit of the season and scrub down your account ready for a squeaky-clean start in a new financial year. Check out these easy ways to get your account in tip-top condition for the year ahead.
1. Tidy up any open feedback reports
You should get a feedback report every time a subscriber leaves feedback on your opt-out page. This triggers an email sent to a person of your choice, who can then investigate it, respond or process any requests made by the subscriber.

To action feedback reports in mmunicMail, just click on the ‘View User Details’ button in the email to head to their record in the system, and then go to the ‘Email Messages’ tab. There, you’ll be able to see every feedback report provided by that user and action them appropriately, including closing them off if there’s no further action required.
Never received a feedback report? It might be that you’ve not set up an email address where they can be sent. If that’s the case, just get in touch and we’ll help you out.
2. Bin unused images in your email templates
Did you know every time you duplicate an email template it copies over all the images too? That’s great if you need to use them again in your new template, but if not, they’re just bulking up the size of your email!
Most email clients have limits on email download size, so the size of your email should be as small as possible to help it land safely in your subscribers’ inboxes. You can check the download size of your email by scrolling down your Template Overview page to the ‘Content’ section.

Yeah… that example’s a biggy.
To clean out your unused images, head into edit mode and in the control panel, switch to the ‘Images’ tab. There, you’ll find thumbnails of all the images currently stored in that template. Hit the ‘x’ button to delete any images that aren’t being used in your template, Save and then voila. You’ll have a much lighter email with a better chance of landing in your subscribers’ inbox.
3. Clean your account and ask for old logins to be removed
It’s always best practice to have unique logins for your team members in any productivity app, which is why we prefer to buck the trend at mmunicMail by not restricting how many team users you can add to your account.
However, if you’ve been using mmunicMail for a while, the chances are you’ll have stacked up quite a few user logins for your team – some of may no longer be needed due to staff or role changes. Although mmunicMail suspends logins after 90 days of inactivity automatically, unused accounts can still pose a security risk for unauthorised access of your account. That’s because those logins can still request their password to be reset and raise support tickets.

To check which logins have access to your account, just get in touch with us for a list of your team users. You can then review your logins and ask us to remove or disable any logins that are no longer needed. We can even do a system permissions review with you for each of your logins if needed.
4. Polish your campaign deliverability with smarter sending
Smart sending features can reduce soft bounces and filtered emails by boosting your domain name and IP address’s sending reputation. It’s a bit like a good peer reviews: every time subscribers engage with your emails, your domain name and IP address get a little ping of kudos. This all builds up to create a seal of trustworthiness for your email campaigns, meaning they are more likely to be delivered safely to new subscribers’ inboxes.
mmunicMail offers two ways to send your campaigns smartly: split testing (sometimes called A/B testing) and Intelligent Sending.
Split testing
Split testing lets you try out up to 5 variations of your subject line on a small portion of your campaigns’ subscribers, calculate which performance the best in terms of open or click rates, and then delivers the best performing version to the remainder of your list. And of course, better campaign performance = better sending reputation.
To start split testing, instead of clicking ‘Send Campaign’ when you’re ready to send, use the drop down arrow next to the button and choose the ‘Split Testing’ option to set up your different versions of your email and customise the settings for it.

Intelligent sending
Intelligent sending, on the other hand, takes advantage of your subscribers’ engagement history with your campaigns to deliver your email to your most engaged users first. Your campaign then pauses for a time (the length of which is up to you), allowing your emails to be delivered, opened and clicked by your most satisfied users. The outcome? The credibility of your campaign gets a big happy uptick of approval that can boost its deliverability. Once the time is up, your campaign resumes delivery to the remaining subscribers on your list.
To start using intelligent sending, scroll down on the ‘Send Campaign’ options screen and flick on the toggle next to ‘Intelligent Sending’ to customise your options. It’s as simple as that!
5. Try out something new
Just as spring breathes new life into the year, a successful spring clean of your account creates the perfect chance to try out something new in your email marketing!
If you’ve not already delved into mmunicMail’s more advanced features, why not look at building a Form, Landing Page or Popup to add to your website and generate more subscribers to your list, or setting up a customised automation workflow to nurture new or existing subscribers?

Both mmunicMail’s Forms and Automation features take the pain out of getting more technically fancy with your campaigns by using drag-and-drop style builders that you’re familiar with from the email template editor. You can also easily test and preview your setup’s using sample data to make sure everything’s working smoothly before you launch.
